I hurried to the local Honda dealer to check it out. I know it's not a minibike but it's pretty cool nonetheless. I am so impressed with it I am adding a link on the resources page to a good Ruckus website. Apparent from this website is the level of enthusiasm there is for this machine. Here is a street legal bike that looks like it's built for the trails. The dual headlights gives it a beefy look and the tubular steel helps add to the industrial feel. I just wish Honda would bring back the CT-70! FYI: this bike sells for about $1800. 10-May-04: added Falcon mini bike to Bird Engineering page. Created Tote Gote page. Added Valiant Manufacturing page. Added Rupp Manufacturing page. Created Steen's Incorporated page. All recent updates will be featured here from now on, which will allow me to focus on adding more content which is why you are here anyway! 27-Feb-04, Updated Rare Rides page with photos of restored Terra Cat and new unidentified section! 13-Feb-04 added Alexander-Reynolds page! 12/05/2003, As this whole idea of sorting and classifying each model into a separate and distinct class is getting cumbersome to say the least, I am considering doing away with the separate listings and combining them into one master listing by manufacturer. That way, you would be able to go to one launching page and access each manufacturer directly from there, with all of their various offerings--whether they span multiple classifications or not. Let me know what you think with the new feedback form on the Contact page. 11/23/03, Watching TV the other night, I stumbled upon a paid advertisement for the Sunshine Scooter . Although it's an electric scooter, I couldn't help but see some similarity with a mini-bike. I know it's a jump, but consider the size and that fact you can buzz around the neighborhood. Quite a number of old-school mini-bikes were really built for very smooth surfaces (like the street). Top speed is claimed to be about 20 miles per hour. I admit a vein of envy in the fact that these are legal but the mini-bike is not. What's up with that? All right, so maybe the Sunshine scooter is too much of a leap for you. But imagine a gas-powered scooter with off-road capabilities. You've come much closer to a mini-bike right? That's exactly what Apache Motors has done with their Sport Utility Scooter. This thing comes complete with a sidecar! There are two models available, the Eagle Basic and the Eagle Deluxe. Both models use a Robin-Subaru engine with 6HP+. Advertised as being a useful utility vehicle, it screams mini-bike to me. Looks like the lines are blurring even further between so-called scooters and the old-fashioned mini-bike. All of which leads me directly to my point. Why can't I ride my mini-bike around the neighborhood...legally? Why is the big-gay Sunshine Scooter road legal, but not our old-school mini-bikes? I would like to hear what you think. Send me an e-mail and voice your opinion. jay@jaycronen.com |
